Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 512GB/256GB
s24 Ultra - My favourite…

Having used a pure Android device for the past seven years, I'm really impressed with the speed and smoothness of this phone. Samsung has come a long way since the days of Touchwiz. There are no lags and far more integration with Google. The build quality is outstanding and has a very premium feel to it. I love the anti-glare screen and its flatness. It's great that Samsung did away with the curved edges; it simply looks better. The display really pops, and videos look better than on my smart TV. In fact, it has twice the nits my Samsung TV outputs at around 2k.
The sound is great too—loud, clear, and quite punchy for phone speakers. You can switch on Atmos, which makes movies sound brilliant. The camera is absolutely mind-blowing. The amount of detail captured, even when zooming in, is amazing. Shots up to 30x produce very little noise. I think with a tripod, you could possibly go right up to 100x and get some good photos.
The night shots are the best I've ever seen on any camera; it seems to see more than my own eyes. Macro shots are my new favourite; I've never had the ability to take close-up shots of this quality and find myself looking for things to shoot. You can play with AI tools as well, like reflection removal and moving objects around.
It's fun having an S-Pen again, having not used one since the Note 3 I had years ago. Drawing with control and quickly scribbling your thoughts is a great feature. I did struggle with converting my entire handwritten version of this into text; it wasn't easy to figure out, but I got there in the end.
The AI features are brilliant and really help with messages and writing documents like this where grammar is not one of your best skills. It gives you several variations to choose from for what you have written. For example, you can choose a professional response, casual, or one full of emojis if that is your thing. That is on top of spell checking and adjusting the grammar. The "circle to search" feature is handy too. It is very quick to open a list of possible sources for whatever you want to know about.
I have not tried the translation features yet but plan on testing them out in Italy this summer. One other call feature I found was the ability to make a conversation appear as text on your phone. I tried it just playing around talking to my Mum and can see this being great for anyone hard of hearing or if a room is too noisy to hear the other person.
Battery life is really good, and paired with a 45W charger, it charges very fast. I haven't tested exactly how long a charge lasts, but with some pretty heavy use, I'm getting around a day. I've set this phone to maximum battery-saving mode, so it only charges to 80%—another great feature I didn't even know existed until I got this phone. In fact, I've found loads of great tools and settings while playing around for hours. Just when you think you've discovered everything, you stumble across something more.
As I mentioned earlier, I haven't had a Samsung phone for a very long time, but having had this one for less than a week, it looks like I've been missing out.
